Mark joined Fortem Capital in December 2020. Prior to joining, Mark was a member of the International Operations Control team at Jefferies and has previously held positions at at Credit Agricole CIB along with IBM. Having completed his undergraduate degree, Mark is currently finalising his MSc in Finance & Investment at the University of Bristol, with his Dissertation focusing on Portfolio Optimisation with Cryptocurrencies. Alongside his studies, Mark worked with SME’s & Charities, represented his university in the League of Legends NUEL Tournament, played Football for his School Faculty and is an FA Qualified Football coach.
Matthew has 20 years of financial services compliance experience as both a regulator and in senior consulting roles in the UK. Matthew spent a decade at the Financial Services Authority performing a number of supervisory roles covering remediation of miss-selling scandals, regulatory transactions, corporate authorisations and approved persons applications. Matthew has 10 years of regulatory consulting experience and his most recent role is as a Director of consulting of Newgate Compliance limited, a firm that provides regulation and governance advice to over 150 regulated entities in the UK. Matthew has a degree in Economics from the University of Birmingham and holds the Financial Planning and Investment Management Certificates.
Passionate about building great companies and empowering people, Isabel is responsible for managing Performance and Culture within Fortem Captial. As an accredited business and personal coach Isabel brings dynamism, drive and fresh ways of thinking to our team. With a Master’s Degree in Finance from London Business School and as a former Director of Credit Suisse Asset Management, Isabel also brings with her extensive knowledge and experience of working in the mercurial world of international finance. Having also lived in Chamonix in the French Alps for many years, Isabel has grown and diversified her business and life experience through running her own corporate ski events company, property companies and her international coaching business.
Mark has been owner/manager of a creative/marketing agency for over 20 years from traditional media, his initial expertise lay in print and fine art, however in todays ever changing world of cluttered marketing and everything digital, Mark uses his extensive creative expertise to build ideas for brand enhancement,that stand out from the crowd embracing new technologies, and continuing to develop and strengthen the Fortem brand. Taking a pragmatic and common sense approach to Marketing, and never believe that marketing is “telling the world you are a rock star”
Bachir heads up and oversees Fortem’s quant team and has been instrumental in the build out of its industrial analytics capabilities, utilising state of the art Monte Carlo, stochastic volatility-based modelling and GPU computing technology. He holds an MSc & BSc in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh, where he also acted as a Tutor and Teaching Assistant within the School of Informatics. Bachir has held several front office quantitative developer roles across several leading global investment banks, with a particular focus on derivatives pricing, portfolio optimization, machine learning and credit analytics.
Josephine recently joined Fortem Capital as an Analyst. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Cambridge and is currently in the process of finishing an MSc in Public Policy at UCL, where she topped her year in econometrics. Her research focuses on international development and welfare economics. Alongside her studies, Josephine has spent the summer in New York, where she interned at a hedge fund investing in distressed debt.
Matthew joined Fortem Capital in August 2020 from HSBC Global Asset Management. He holds a First Class MA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Glasgow. Whilst at Glasgow, Matthew completed the HSBC Global Asset Management internship, and converted this into a fulltime role on the graduate scheme upon completion of his studies. Here, he worked across asset classes and roles from Direct Real Estate Investments to ETF Sales before joining Fortem. Outside of work and his studies Matthew is a keen rugby player, having played for the 2nd XV at the University of Glasgow, and then for the 1st XV at HSBC Rugby Football Club.
Leonie joined Fortem Capital in February 2019 on the sales side. She holds an MSc and a BSc in Economics from Durham University and the University of Bath respectively. Outside of studies she was actively involved in student societies as Chair of the German Society at the University of Bath, a Nightline volunteer, and a member of the University College Rowing Team. She also completed a year-long work placement at Goldman Sachs, working as part of a cross-asset team drafting derivative trade confirmations. Through her internship experience and time at university she developed a keen interest in financial markets, alternative investments and client service and has brought this interest to her current role.
Fred started his career in the financial services industry upon the completion of his MBA in Canada. During this time, he worked as a financial analyst responsible for covering consumer staples alongside taking further finance courses and gaining a specialisation in Corporate and Investment Finance. Fred joined Fortem Capital in March 2018 and is currently involved with the trading and fund management aspects of the business.
Kevin Gray, CFA has 10 years experience within the financial services industry and alternative investments. Kevin began his career at Brooks Macdonald Asset Management before joining Bordier, where he was an Investment Director and sat on both the firm’s Investment and Management Committees. In 2020 he joined Fortem Capital as a Fund Manager and member of the Global Investment Committee. Kevin graduated from Durham University Business School with honours and is a CFA charterholder.
